Keith Richard’s Life

Thanks to audible, i’ve been listening to a lot of audiobooks while driving. While I wish I discovered this while I still lived in Wagga when I used to drive 3 – 4 hours a day on average. But still driving back and forth, you can get the odd chapter or so in during the day. And I’m absorbing more books – in the evening I just dont have the energy to read anything new before sleeping…
This months credit went to Keith Richard’s auto-biography, “Life”. It starts with Keith introducing “his good friend” Johnny Depp reading the book. Interesting. He puts on his best english “lad” accent on and starts to talk about Keith’s lifestyle. Not a bad start. Proper professional voice, done well.
About a quarter of the way in, just as The Stones are starting to record music and he’s shagging one of The Ronnette’s (the one that Spector treated like shit), it CHANGES. Maybe Johnny got a new movie role or something, but the new guy doing the book is SHIT.
I don’t know where this Joe Hurley is from, but he can’t do Keith’s voice. You know when someone puts on a fake accent on TV and it’s so bad it’s distracting? This is that guy. His American southern drawl is somewhat better (to be fair, probably easier. Did you know Jason Stackhouse is an Australian?) but I’m having a hard time continuing listening to this in the car when the guy is just terrible at it. It’s a shame – it’s a bit slow but Keith’s a good story teller. I might just have to borrow the book from “someone” in a couple of months
