I bought a MacBook Air.

God help me.

A couple of weeks ago I was stuck in Broken Hill trying to console into a cisco router with a six year old asus laptop that has a dead battery.

Stupid free wifi

My 09 imac is still working a treat, and mother said she’d buy it off of me. it’s got 8GB of ram and will potter along for many years more. For what my mother needs, I can see it running, another 3 if more. Dad is happy with his work server – he uses that as a web browser as well as his work hub.

My brydge keyboard case finally arrived for my ipad, and it makes typing on my ipad 3 so so so much either and i bloody love it – but there’s some times when you need a proper operating system, though.

God I’m going to miss the big screen though…

The problem (and good thing) about Moffat is you have no idea where he’s going with his ideas. With Russell, I picked “Mr. Saxon” straight up, it was easy. These days, I love the guessing games we go through all year.
I just found this article - http://blogs.houstonpress.com/artattack/2013/01/doctor_who_oswin_theories.php – and although most of it is pretty far fetched, one bit grabbed my interest -

8. Oswin is some kind of divinely appointed companion. Speculation on this draws mostly from the meaning of both Oswin and Oswald, which mean “Friend of God.” Clara means “Bright,” another word for clever. “The Snowmen” makes direct reference to the universe owing The Doctor, very close to being a God himself, something. Maybe the universe finally delivered.”

While I don’t think they’re taking the show in a religious direction (far too tricky for this show), It did make me think about one aspect of the show – The Guardians. In the classic series, there was a power greater than the time lords, One which even the Time Lords worshipped in their own timey-wimey ways as gods. They were the ones who sent the Doctor on his merry chase around the universe looking for the key to time. While I doubt they’ll go in that direction, could they still exist, post time war? The Eternals (well, apart from The Trickster) “fled the universe in despair” but it doesn’t mean all higher forms did. Or are the guardians too much for the new series?? I can see the White Guardian in his own weird way looking after the Doctor while the Black Guardian rallies his forces in the Silence – the truth of why those people have it in for the Doctor – maybe they don’t honestly know themselves???

Well that was a fun weekend.

While I missed a few people, I managed to bump into people I haven’t seen in years, and also someone I lost contact with (stupid phone). So next time I come back (due to work, will be often) Weekends in the home town should be more fun! Well, after the silly season, that is. Now is the time of gifts and saving and (eventually) holidays! Looking forward to it.

We managed to see Zach Watt (I believe that is how you spell it) – some years ago back in the dim dark days of the mid ninties he won an unearthed competition in Broken Hill and as far as I was told, only recently moved back to town? Anyways, it was fun and interesting – he started just with him and his acoustic guitar and playing the strangest yet interesting of covers – from Jeff Buckley, Beyonce!, Johnny Cash, Kate Bush and all sorts. After a meal break he returned with backing music on his laptop and sung a whole batch of Frank Sinatra standards. By the end of that the crowd were getting drunker and rowdy (it was sit down dinner arrangement and people just got more pissy as the night progressed) he ended it getting the crowd up dancing in tiniest of dancefloors by firing up the kareoke section of the computer and doing the stuff the crowd loves come late – you know, ABBA, etc. He’s got an amazing voice and there’s not much he was stuck on that he couldn’t pull off flawlessly. It’s a shame he doesn’t perform any of his own music but sadly Broken Hill isn’t the type of town for that. If I can find any of his own stuff online later, I’ll upload it to another post. He’s got quite the talent, the lucky bugger. I’m glad I went. It’s great to be sitting in the living artwork that is the Palace (seriously, go rent Priscilla. That pub when they’re in Broken Hill? That’s it. Artwork all over the walls, I love that place.) and something which just isnt the standard typical DJ or pub band is a welcome refreshing change.
